This was a neat story even before Ellen DeGeneres showed the video of Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.

Paul Watson and his stepson, Marcus, visited DeGeneres with Marcus’ daughter, Madison. Earlier this month, Marcus Watson gave his stepfather a big surprise for his birthday: Watson legally changed his family’s last name to Watson.

Marcus Watson captured the moment that Madison gave the present to Paul Watson in a video.

“Oh my goodness. Oh man, that just made my … life,” Paul Watson said before he started crying.

The three visited DeGeneres on the set of her show, and she noted that the entire family, which lives in Pennsylvania, loves the Chiefs. That’s when they got another surprise. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith appeared in a video and told them they were all invited to a game.

“Marcus thank you for your service to our country and Paul thank you for being an amazing dad,” Smith said. “See you guys soon.”

The family is receiving four tickets, sideline passes, a tour of the stadium and a chance to meet KC Wolf.

Here is a video that was shared by DeGeneres:
