Wichita police investigators are looking for a 16-year-old who is accused of shooting a 19-year-old just before 6 p.m. Sunday in south Wichita.
Officer Charley Davidson said the older teenager was at a cellphone business in the 2800 block of South Hydraulic paying a bill before the shooting. As he was leaving in his car, a 16-year-old fired several shots at the car, hitting the 19-year-old in his upper body, Davidson said.
The older teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition. South Hydraulic was closed for several hours Sunday while police investigated. The car had been hit several times by gunshots and was left in the middle of the street.
Citing an ongoing investigation, Davidson was unable to say whether the two teenagers know each other, whether the younger teenager had been in the cellphone store prior to the shooting or whether the 19-year-old was targeted.
Police are also looking for a second man who was in the 19-year-old’s car at the time of the shooting. Davidson said that person took off after shots were fired.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wichita Police Department at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
The 19-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition.
