Wichitans wanting to serve on a new civilian oversight board for the Wichita Police Department can now submit an application online.
The Wichita Citizen’s Review Board will have seven members appointed by the city manager who will have the opportunity to review citizen complaints, police policies, best practices and officer misconduct cases as well as give input about racial and biased-based policing issues to the police department and Wichita City Council.
The board will also help the police department with community outreach and serve as an advisory board. It’s creation was approved by the City Council on Oct. 10.
Applications can be submitted at www.wichita.gov/Boards under “Wichita Citizen’s Review Board.”

Board members must be representative of the community’s demographics, be at least 18 and a U.S. citizen and meet other qualifications including passing a criminal background check. They cannot be law enforcement officers, elected officials or their family members.
Applicants selected to serve will be appointed to four-year terms, starting in January. Board will meet quarterly or more often at the request of the city manager.
