It’s been a long time since there was a grocery or liquor store at the corner of Central and Oliver, but a new combination of one is going to open there in April.

It won’t be in the former Dillons space on the southeast corner or on the northeast corner near where Rossiter Liquor used to be.

Central Market Wine & Spirits is going in the former Three Pea Consignment Galleryand original Williams Ace Hardware – space on the southwest corner at 4729 E. Central.

Patty Binter is opening the business. A statement about the opening explains that part of the appeal for Binter is following a family tradition of sorts. Her family started in the beverage and alcohol business in Kansas at the end of Prohibition.

The statement says a company her grandfather, EW Sullivan, had eventually became Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. The family supplied Glenna Rossiter’s store and worked with her on her business.

Binter wants to recreate an experience in the neighborhood similar to shopping at Rossiter’s.

Along with wine, spirits and craft beer, the store eventually will have grocery market items as well thanks to a change in Kansas law that next year will allow nonalcoholic sales at liquor stores.

There will be neighborhood market types of items that the family will select based on what customers say they want.

The 11,000-square-foot store will have 30 cooler doors and beer and wine caves.

The statement says there’s room for expansion next year and after that.

Look for more from Binter along with an opening date soon.
