A one-time NuWay restaurant soon will become a Subway.

The former NuWay site at 2135 W. 21st St. just west of Amidon has been vacant since early 2016, but Subway will open there next month.

Subway already is a mere 79 feet to the west of that building at 2143 W. 21st St.

Cory Skinner, director of real estate for Wisconsin-based Subway franchisee Rottinghaus Co., says the company is moving the restaurant because the new building has a drive-through.

“We move to drive-through sites like that because it adds another feature for our customers so we can serve them better,” he says.

Rottinghaus has almost 400 Subway restaurants in six states, and it owns most of the Subways in and around Wichita.

“We’re constantly looking at upgrading our locations and our individual stores,” Skinner says.

The company also likes end caps of retail centers.

The West 21st Street Subway has been open since 1992 and was Rottinghaus’ second restaurant in the market.

Look for the new site to open by late January.

Pizza Hut will now offer beer delivery with it's pizzas. Music by bensound.com.
