The west side scored a rare restaurant win in 2005 when TGI Fridays opened at NewMarket Square instead of going to the east side first, but now the restaurant has closed.

“We can confirm the last day of business for our Wichita restaurant was August 21,” a spokesman for the Dallas-based company said in an e-mail.

“We are working with other Fridays locations in the area to transfer as many team members as possible and we look forward to continuing to serve our guests at those locations,” he further wrote.

Except, of course, there are no other Fridays restaurants here. Everyone expected an east-side Fridays to follow the west-side one, but it never did.

Fridays is going to sublease its space, but there are no details on a potential tenant or if there even is one yet. Look for more information as soon as it’s available.
