It was one of Wichita’s most unique culinary inventions, and it is no more.
At least not in Wichita.
About a week ago, Dave Hoffman closed his Charlie’s Pizza Taco restaurant at 602 N. Tyler Road. He’d opened the restaurant in November 2011 and specialized in a special pizza/taco hybrid, bierocks, and items with names like “pizza pup,” “pizza burger” and “The Raft” – a pizza crust adorned with a split hot dog and sauerkraut.
At the same time, he closed the restaurant’s sister food truck, which hit the streets in 2014.

Hoffman, who lives in Denver, said traffic to the restaurant was slow.
“We just didn’t have enough business,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s the location, but we’ve been there five years dumping money into it.”
Also, Hoffman said, he can’t properly supervise the business from Denver. So he’s planning to move both the truck and the restaurant there.
The original Charlie’s Pizza Taco opened in Pratt in1965 but closed in 2014 after the death of the founder Charlie Hoffman, Dave’s father.
