East-siders who have been waiting and waiting on their Picasso’s Pizzeria are done waiting.
Kurt Schmidt opened the second Wichita location of his popular Delano pizza restaurant last week. It’s in the former Warren Travel space at 5900 E. Central.
It has the same menu and about the same amount of square footage as the original. The new Picasso’s has a modern look and a big back dining room – plus a space-age tap system that must be seen to be believed. (Look for a video next week.) The restrooms have their signature pizza tile mosaics on the floor.
Schmidt has long wanted an east-side Picasso’s and has said his new East Central spot will be ideal because it will draw customers from both College Hill and the east side.

He opened the original Picasso’s, which specializes in giant, New York-style slices, in March 2012 followed by a Derby location in 2013. The Derby spot closed after six months when business there was not what Schmidt expected.
He expanded the original Picasso’s in early 2016, doubling its size and adding a new bar and more seating.
The new Picasso’s hours are the same as the original: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Schmidt asks customers to be patient when they visit his new place. The staff is all new, and they’re working out the kinks, he said.
